SolarScope

A video appointment with a technician

You have used telemedicine. This is that, for your solar system.

Some faults are far easier to show than to describe. On a SolarScope appointment you walk outside with your phone, point the camera at the array, the inverter or the tank, and a technician looks at it with you and works out what is wrong.

  • Runs in your normal phone browser. Nothing to download.
  • The technician already knows which system is yours, so nobody spends the first five minutes reading serial numbers off a label.
  • If we cannot tell from video, it becomes a visit and the fee comes off that instead.
$149 or $99 for AllSolar Cares membersA service call starts at $274 for the first hour, so this is the cheaper way in.

How it works

Four steps, no app, no waiting for a truck

The whole thing runs in the browser on the phone you already have.

Book a time

Call the office and we find a slot. Tell us what you are seeing and which system it is, and we pull up your record before the call.

Open the link

At the appointment time you tap a link in your normal phone browser. No download, no account to set up, no password to remember.

Walk outside

You point the camera at whatever is bothering you. The array, the inverter, the monitoring screen, the pool pump, the tank. The technician looks with you.

Get the answer

You leave the call knowing what is wrong and what it takes to fix it. If it needs hands on the equipment, it becomes a visit and the fee comes off that.

What to bring to a SolarScope

Good on video, and what still needs a visit

We would rather tell you up front than have you find out after you have paid.

Good on video

Things a technician can see, hear, or read off a screen with you.

  • An inverter showing a light, a code, or an error message
  • A monitoring app that says the system is offline or producing less than it should
  • A pool heating system that is not warming the pool, or is dripping
  • A solar hot water system that has stopped heating, or is making noise
  • A smell, a noise, or something that looks wrong
  • A system that came with the house, walked through with someone who knows it
  • Whether a service visit is actually needed, before you book one

Needs a visit

Things nobody can settle through a camera, and we will not pretend to.

  • Anything that needs a meter on the equipment
  • The physical condition of wiring, connectors, and roof penetrations
  • A leak that has to be traced to its source
  • Anything behind a cover or inside an enclosure
  • Whether the installation meets current code
What we will never ask you to do Open electrical equipment. Remove equipment covers. Access internal breakers. Climb onto a roof. Disconnect equipment. Solar equipment carries dangerous DC voltage whenever the sun is up, and it is not switched off by your breaker panel. If a step needs a licensed contractor, we say so and stop.

Booking

Call the office and we will find a time

Appointments run Monday to Friday, 8 to 5, and we will arrange an evening or weekend time if that suits you better. Have your phone charged and be at the property, because the whole point is walking outside and looking.

Request a time from your free Solar Home account and the technician opens your record before the video starts, so the equipment is already known. You can also call the office and we will find a time with you.

Prefer to write it down first? The remote support request form reaches the same office, and we will suggest a SolarScope if it is the right fit.

Questions

SolarScope questions, answered

Do I need to download an app?

No. SolarScope runs in the browser already on your phone. You tap a link at the appointment time and you are in. Any phone with a camera and a web browser works.

Where is SolarScope available?

SolarScope is a remote service, so it is available to solar owners anywhere in Florida. If it turns out someone has to be there, inside our 17 counties that is us, and the fee comes off the visit. Outside them we hand you everything we established on the call and can refer an independent provider when you authorize it.

Will the technician tell me my system is healthy?

No, and be careful of anyone who does from a screen. A video appointment tells you what can be seen and read. It is not a physical inspection and it cannot establish the condition of the equipment on your roof.

What if the technician cannot tell from video?

Then it becomes a visit and the SolarScope fee comes off that instead. You never pay for a call that could not answer the question.

Does it matter who installed the system?

No. We look at systems we did not install every day, including systems whose installer is no longer in business.

Will you ask me to open anything or go on the roof?

Never. Everything on a SolarScope is done from the ground with the camera. If a step needs a licensed contractor, we say so and stop.

How do I pay?

The office invoices you after the appointment, the same way as any other AllSolar service. Nothing is charged before the call, and nothing is charged without your approval.
